community rating.
It's the fact that it doesn't matter if you're posting a point or countering a point Sharkith, you always claim it's the burden of whoevers disagreeing with you to prove their point and never upto you to prove your point, that's horribly arrogant.

Seriously though, Puppet's comments are spot on.

Nothing in the world can take the place of persistance. Talent will not: nothing more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not: unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistance and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan "press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.......

It's not just numbers tho', a good/bad rating on a post does slant how peeps might view an otherwise neutral post. Also, with the usual mob mentality, a post which has a bad rating will prolly be far more likely to get flamed with repliers safe in the knowledge peeps anonimously agree with them.Mojo wrote:it is a numbers game (for some at least) I personally don't care and it won't change the way I post.
I don't think it's any big deal tbh, just a bit silly and needless.
What's to stop peeps having a big circle jerk on their guild forums for example, giving each other positive ratings over spam?
Mael, 50th ment.
No point boring people here with sensless posts - I will pm you. This mystifies me.Xest wrote:It's the fact that it doesn't matter if you're posting a point or countering a point Sharkith, you always claim it's the burden of whoevers disagreeing with you to prove their point and never upto you to prove your point, that's horribly arrogant.
edit: What is worse is that I have never went out of my way to insult you - if I have I am sorry.

Well, what is *EXACTLY* the point of the system? Besides that, if you want to make a working system, obviously being less vulnerable to 'exploits' is a good starting-point. As I pointed out earlier its very easy to skyrocket your community-score if you want to. That alone makes the number entirely useless, as everyone who wants to, can get a high score. Or a low score.
This makes the system unreliable, and there's your biggest flaw in it, an unreliable system giving a basically arbitrary number depending heavily on how people clicked a + and - button on the forum.
It only takes a handful people to totally ruin the number by boosting (or dropping, depending on your cup) their own Community-rating.
Then you can ask yourselves the question: What does the number really mean? Well nothing then. Then the next question obviously rises immediatly: Why have such a system and rating in the first place?
Anyhow I notice some difference in opinions about it under the mods themselves, so obviously this system hasnt been thorougly thought-out when it was introduced.
Up to you guys what you do with it, but its nothing else then /random 100 in a few months. It basically depends too much on how people want their number themselves - and not by their posting habits. So in that way its almost counter-productive.

Yeah I guess, I just don't think like that. I generally do what i want regardless of anyone or anything else and i don't often think that others would actually care enough or be so easily led as to do that kinda stuff. I did witness the old shout count spam wars tho which was a numbers thing.Maeloch wrote:It's not just numbers tho', a good/bad rating on a post does slant how peeps might view an otherwise neutral post.
