Terror Bomb in London
The agenda however has not yet been articulated politically and so it remains the subject of speculation like - they hate us or they want to damage the economy or scare people and so on. There is no doubt that they have political aims it is just those aims lack political articulation.Xest wrote:Of course the Madrid bombings had a political agenda, the agenda was to try and swing the election the other way and it worked. It's like saying the World Trade Center had no political agenda also, of course it did, it had many - the most successful being to weaken America's financial strength.
It probably makes sense to be pessimistic of a political movement ever emerging I mean lets face the facts the phenomena they are against is global and basically very powerful. It would not look likely that anything could be gained politically since America has said it will attack any country that harbours terrorists. So strictly speaking if a political party was formed no-one would like to admit that their postal mark was say - Saudi Arabia, Afganistan and so on and then the whole country gets flattened by some weird madman who always seems to have a John Wayne like grin....

I'm pretty sure their political aims were made clear in Madrid, as with the London bombings the group claiming responsibility said it was because of our involvement in Iraq. They've done the bombings to try and make us pull out of Iraq - that is their political goal with this. As with the Madrid bombings they wanted to change the outcome of the elections such that people would vote for the party willing to withdraw sooner from Iraq.
I don't think your getting me right. The movements concerned with these bombings are not really articulating anything that could be constituted as a set of political goals that are in turn united by an ideology of sorts. There is nothing there. Not only this but the groups are not cohesive - with London they are not even sure who did it for example.Xest wrote:I'm pretty sure their political aims were made clear in Madrid, as with the London bombings the group claiming responsibility said it was because of our involvement in Iraq. Contrast their situation with the IRA who had over 300 years of their own history, a very clear set of political aims that could be read and their own political representatives who you could talk to. Then I hope you can see what I am on about.

yes of course they have a history! But there is as yet no real political movement as such that articulates that history and that is linked in any way to those doing the bombing - as their mouthpiece. I am not really in a qualified position to analyse it but if there were such organisations at least then communication could start. In Palestine for example many of these movements have political wings - Arafat etc. whilst there is not concrete peace thay can at least communicate with each other no matter how imperfectly that is it is better than what the world has just now with respect to global terror.Ankh Morpork wrote:You could say that the muslims got a bit of a history with the western world if you count the crusades

Of course with America having declred 'war on terror' and the British government allied with them in this 'war' it is hard to see at the moment if such organisations did emerge that they would be given a 'fair hearing'. The situation is fairly hopeless to be frank.
