Gitt if you don't trust the mods to keep your info safe when the information we're specifically referring to is IP addresses then might I ask why you're still here handing them to us on a plate

?

Seriously, whatever you may think of the mods or whatever they may think of you none of us are childish enough to make use of your IP address to carry out, or put your details in a position where someone else might carry out some lame DoS attack or anything so you can stop being paranoid

As I said, I don't hand out info I can't afford to fall into the wrong hands... in answer to Kallima's concern regarding the safety of all personal information.

The key words are "can't afford to fall into the wrong hands"

I wouldn't expect any mod to abuse my IP address (although it could be argued that tracing IP addresses without reason such as breach of forum rules or illegal activity could be considered an abuse..) I do however doubt the security of personal information wherever it is held.

You call it paranoid, but having worked in Banks and Investment houses both in a Financial and IT capacity, and having been subjected to experiences not unlike Kallima has endured, I just call this good practice

Actually I didn't run the trace route, hence the "might"

I agree it's good practice, but I was referring to your comment in reply to Banana saying you don't share her faith in trusting the mods and quite frankly, that is paranoia

Call it paranoia if you wish.. then I will happily admit to being paranoid.

Theres a difference between being paranoid and being wrong

Banana says she trusts the mods with personal information, I say I don't (I don't trust anyone I don't know well)... paranoid or not that's my view and it isn't going to change no matter how many cookies you offer me

Well, you won't find anything from my IP but that is besides the point.

I just found it funny that there were so much thick-headed people who couldn't get a simple joke.
I suggest Gitt should change his name to IdonGitt which (in my opnion) is much more suitable for him.

My post about ip addresses being confidential seems to have triggered a debate in a different area.

It wasn't intended as a question of trusting people, but of making sure they know that you don't want certain information handing out. To give you an example of this. A friend of mine, who I trusted, and still trust, was conned into giving out the phone number of my boyfriend at the time. I had had no idea this might happen, so hadn't warned them to be careful. It wasn't their fault. As a result, my boyfriend had a phone call from a nut screaming down the phone at him to stay away from me. It was kind of embarrassing.
